Eagles Nest Destroyed on Buckhorn Lake

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is seeking the public’s help in identifying the individual or individuals responsible for destroying a bald eagle’s nest on an island located on Buckhorn Lake, in the Municipality of Trent Lakes.

On the morning of June 14, 2017, a conservation officer from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Peterborough office, acting on a public complaint, attended the island. The officer located evidence that suggests a tree containing an active eagle’s nest had been cut down. The nest was destroyed and there was no evidence of the young being left behind. It is believed that the tree had been cut down prior to June 3, 2017.

The area where the evidence was found is known to be frequented by outdoor enthusiasts. The ministry is looking for information from anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the activity, or who has information regarding the individual or individuals who committed the offence.

If you have any information about this incident, please contact the MNRF TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667 toll-free any time, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
