Members of The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario
Provincial Police (OPP) have received complaints regarding nails and screws being left
on the roadway, in and around the area of 4th Line and Mastwood Road in the
Municipality of Port Hope.
Motorists and residents in the area have sustained damage to their tires as a result of
nails and screws left on the roadway. Community partners have come together to clean
the roadway however additional complaints have recently come to light.
This mischief is a crime and jeopardizes lives, leads to collisions, and burdens the
community financially. It disrupts businesses, diverts law enforcement resources and
undermines public safety. While it might seem like a prank to some, the ramifications
are much more severe.
The OPP has reason to believe that it is intentional and are requesting the public’s
assistance in the investigation.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to contact the
Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or their local police. To remain anonymous,
contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit information online at
